Nestled a short 10-minute car ride away from Disney World is a paradise called  Marriott’s Harbour Lake. This hotel has stolen our hearts, and remains at the top of our “Best Off-Site Disney World Hotels” list.

Marriott’s Harbour Lake boasts island-themed architecture, and its landscaping sets the scene for a tropical escape.  The grounds are luscious and have multiple themed-pool complexes. These complexes feature waterslides, a pirate ship and water cannons that are amazing for the little ones. While it provides a great outdoor waterpark for the family, it still maintains a laid-back “Key West vibe.”

Marriott’s Harbour Lake is smaller than many big complexes, which provides a very relaxing atmosphere. This is definitely a much-appreciated commodity after long hectic park days.

The staff is friendly and accommodating, and the resort gets some of the highest star numbers on the internet, all websites combined.

Accommodations

We first chose to stay at this hotel because we needed a kitchen. We were travelling with two young boys, and one of them has Autism. Like most families, having a kitchen provides us with a much-needed flexibility to prepare meals and snacks. We often travel also with my parents, which makes our group a party of 6 people (4 adults and 2 kids).

Marriott Harbour Lake provides guest rooms and 1 or 2 bedroom villas throughout their property, which provides a home-like feel. The villas are fully-equipped with kitchens, separate living and dining areas, balconies or patios, and more.

We always book a 2-bedroom villa for our family. The unit of our choice features 2 bedrooms (1 king / 2 queens) and 2 full bathrooms (a bathroom with a stand-alone shower and another one with a tub/shower combination).

The unit has a small washer and dryer which is a life saver when it comes to travelling with young kids. It also allows us to not overpack (a chronic fault of mine).

The cookware and tableware are fully stocked in the kitchen and match the beautiful Caribbean decor. The kitchen also has a dishwasher.  Each unit also has a screened balcony, which is the perfect location to enjoy a cocktail after a long day, while watching the sunset.

Pools

Marriott HotelPools are awesome: they are not too big, nor too small. There are three main pool areas:

Shipwreck landing pool

Shipwreck landing pool is a great one for kids that are under 12 years of age. It’s zero entry so little ones can decide to go up to their comfort level of water. The pirate ship and its slides can keep children occupied for hours!  There is also a regular pool here for your enjoyment. I highly recommend enjoying the sunset here – and be sure to bring your own drinks!

At this pool you can also find one of the biggest hut-tubs in Orlando. It’s spacious and nice.

Florida Falls Splash Pad

This is a great splash pad for kids to play! The fort-style structure is appealing for older kids.

Florida Falls Swimming pool

This pool is also zero-entry, and features a small water slide, where an employee monitors its use. The height requirement is 42”.

Florida Falls Kiddie pool

This is a very small pool for toddlers, covered for shade to make sure your family is protected from the Florida sun.

Patio and Bar Grill

This bar and grill is located next to the Shipwreck Landing Pool and serves a variety of traditional American dining options throughout the day (burgers, fries, sandwiches, and drinks). It boasts a very nice outdoor seating area. You can also grab your meal to-go.

In the evenings, they often play movies outdoors – it’s a very special treat for the whole family!

Activities

The resort usually gives its guests a schedule for upcoming activities during their stay. They have pool games, beer and wine tastings, movie nights, campfire nights and much, much more!

There is also an arcade next to the lobby, full of fun games for the kids.

No Parking Fees

Their parking is free, which is a definite plus.

This particular hotel doesn’t have daily buses going to Disney World, so it’s mostly a good option for those who are driving down, or who are planning on renting a car upon their landing.

Pets are not allowed (only service animals) so you may need to look for another option if you are travelling with your furry friend.
