Walt Disney World has always been synonymous with magic, wonder, and unforgettable experiences. As the park continues to evolve, so do the ways in which guests can maximize their adventure. Here's the scoop on the new Lightning Lane Multi-Pass!

Enter the Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass—a new offering designed to enhance your Disney experience after it was recently announced that the Genie + service will officially retire on its last day, July 23 (just when I finally got the hang of it!).

Here’s everything you need to know about this announcement.

Everything You Need to Know About the New Lightning Lane MultiPass at Walt Disney World

What is the Multi Pass?

If you are familiar with the old FastPass + reservation system pre-Covid, this new system should not be too foreign to you as it seems that Disney is returning to its roots. The main difference seems to be that where the FastPass + system was included in the price of your ticket (or free), this Multi Pass system will have to be purchased for an additional fee.

You will be able to purchase passes for 1 theme park per day for the length of your visit, and book 3 rides per day in advance (1 ride in tier One, 2 rides in Tier 2, or all 3 rides in tier 2).

After using your first selection, you can check the My Disney Experience app to make another selection.

You will always be able to hold 3 Multi Pass selections at a time, so you can book another one as soon as you redeem your first one.

What is the Single Pass?

This is the exact same thing as the current Individual Lightning Lanes, meaning you can pay to make a reservation for one ride (only reserved for the most popular rides).  You will be able to purchase up to 2 selections per day in advance.

Frequently asked questions about the Multi Pass

Can I park hop with the Multi Pass?

You can still use the Lightning Lane Multi Pass if you park hop, it’s just that you can pre-book the 3 rides in one park only (preferably in the morning). You will need to redeem your selections before moving to the next park. Once you redeem one selection, you can make additional selections in the second park.

How much will the Multi Pass cost?

The prices will depend on how busy it is at your time of travel and subject to vary. For now we are expecting the prices to be similar to the ones for Genie +, but this is always subject to change.

When can I purchase my Multi and Single Passes?

You can start making the selections for up to 7 days in advance when staying at a Walt Disney Resort Hotel, for your entire stay (up to 14 days). Note: if you cancel your Disney Resort stay, your Lightning Lane experiences will also be canceled automatically.

Guests not staying at a Disney Resort property will be able to make their selections 3 days in advance.

Purchasing opens at 7 a.m. (EST) on the day you are eligible.

Though it was at first announced that guests cannot purchase Multi or Single Passes from an international location, it has now been confirmed that Canadian guests will able to make their Multi or Single Passes reservations 7 or 3 days ahead of time from Canada.  As of press time, International guests from other countries will have to wait until they are in the US to be able to do so.

Is the Multi Pass refundable?

No, Multi and Single Passes are not refundable.

Once inside the park, how can I make additional selections?

You will always be able to hold 3 Multi Pass selections at a time, so you can book another one as soon as you redeem your first one via the My Disney Experience app. Once you have used your first selection, you can make another reservation for any park (if you park hop) and any tier.

Can a ride be offered both as a Multi Pass and Single Pass?

No, it will be either or.

Can I use a Multi Pass or a Single Pass more than once for the same ride in the same day?

No, you can only use one pass per attraction per day.

Any changes regarding the selection of rides when compared to Genie +?

Most character experiences and Meet & Greets seems to no longer be available for either Multi or Single Pass.

Any Changes to the Virtual Queue system?

No, these changes do not affect any of the virtual queues in place, like for Tron and Guardians of the Galaxy, for example.
